Hammers midfield completely dominated at Tottenham as the Under-19s ended their programme for the year in fine style.

Emmanuel Cascione, Leon Britton and French triallist Ludvik Norbert combined well and created many problems for a strong Spurs side.

Amos Foyewa made the first goal in the 38th minute when he cut inside from the wing and crossed for Cascione to head past Tottenham 'keeper Attwell.

Hammers scored their second three minutes after the break when Louis Riddle swept the ball across the box for Dean Smith to turn into the net. Only a great save by Attwell a few minutes later prevented Smith scoring his second, but he could do little to stop a spectacular Cascione scissors-kick flashing past him into the net on 73 minutes.

Riddle scored Hammers fourth five minutes from the end after Joe Sealey's long clearance had found Foyewa in space.

Coach Tony Carr regarded the performance as the best of the season so far. "We played Spurs off the park and I wouldn't say that very often," he said. "It's our job at the Academy to progress players through to the first-team squad as quickly as possible - to fast- track them. Emmanual Cascione grabbed two today and looked sharp. He's very quick and to be fair is coping well. I hope he will get some reserve games in before the end of the season."

David Cross' side gave the Hammers a good run for their money, particularly in the second half, but West Ham certainly had their chances to win.

James Allen was particularly busy, and a ninth minute cross for Leon Britton saw the dimunitive midfielder's shot saved by Tom Whittle. Allen's free kick then saw Eastwood head wide before a Daryl McMahon cross flashed across the face of the goal.  A Riddle run then set up Britton to volley over before Allen forced a good save.  In a game that fizzled out somewhat from the Hammers point of view

Atrocious playing conditions did the Hammers Under-19s no favours at Reading. The game was played on a soaked, muddy surface which made it impossible for West Ham to make full use of their normal passing style. But the Hammers looked like earning themselves a creditable draw before Reading grabbed two late goals after a great effort from Daryl McMahon had been cleared off the line.
