A goal 15 minutes after the start put the home side ahead but Winters converted Chapman's pass to make it 1-1. A further success by Dunstable gave them a 2-1 interval lead and the added to this mid-way through the second half. With the score at 3-1 against them the Hammers rallied to have most of the play but the only conversion of many openings came five minutes from time when Chapman headed home from Franklyn's corner-kick to leave us 3-2 in arrears at the final whistle in a match that pleased the spectators with some good soccer.

Jackson put us one up after ten minutes but the home side went ahead by 2-1 before the interval and maintained their advantage till the close of a game rather spoiled by the bumpy pitch.

The Pensioners had a 100 perc ent record to head the table, and they retained both these honours by gaining a 4-1 victory against our less-experienced side which could not cope with largely professional opposition. Crawley (a newcomer from the Watford area) was our scorer.

Although one down at half-timc the Hammers equalised through a penalty taken by Bill Robinson and appeared to have a fighting chance. However, defensive errors let in the homesters who netted three times in the last twenty minutes.

Our XI did well to draw this game as Town had an experienced side on view, the Hammers gained their first Metropolitan League point of the season after a good game played in a strong wind. The opposition "keeper was in really first-rate form and conceded only one goal in the second half, when Chapman headed home Wragg's comer after Bedford had taken the lead after the interval with a penalty.

Another interesting game brought a fair sharing of the points through a 1-1 draw. The Hatters took a 1-0 lead in a close struggle, but Barrick gained a deserved equaliser for the Hammers.

Aberdeen, a player from Hertfordshire, was having his first game for the Hammers. Although the game went to extra time neither side could gain a goal and this was extremely disappointing to our team who dominated the exchanges and had at least four-fifths of the territorial advantage. A lack of thrust at the decisive points accounted for our blank sheet so we shall have to meet the Seasiders in a reply that should have been completely unnecessary.

Pitt scored our goal and we looked like winning until the Kent club equalised five minutes from time.
