This match was one of the first to be played at the request of Field Marshal Montgomery, Chief of the British Forces in Germany. Brentford had preceded the Hammers by playing in Hamburg, the Bees were given a great time, as well as a good hiding, by a Services team...

The referee was Major Renault (of the French Army), and the linesmen Major Mapstone (R.E.) and SQMS Moore (R.A.O.C.).

The band of the Royal Horse Guards (The Blues) provided the music.

The kick-off was (in Service parlance at 15:00 hours.

The presence of Arthur Banner in our line-up was thanks to the efforts of his C.O. at the time, and Arthur deputised for our injured skipper Charlie Bicknell. The match resulted in a 2-2draw.
