CLAPTON ORIENT : London Combination

West Ham Reserves lost their opening London Combination match at Upton Park on by three goals to one, and Clapton Orient Reserves were good value for their victory. There were occasions In the opening period when the Hammers appeared likely to win, but generally there was more snap about the movements of the O.'s second string, and the only goal of West Ham was registered by Robson by means of a penalty kick.

On Monday evening at the Boleyn Castle. West Ham Reserves proved much too good for Brentford Reserves, whom they defeated in a Combination game by six goals to nil. Moran opened the scoring after three minutes play, and three minutes later James put through his own goal when the ball rebounded from the post against his foot after Wood had shot. Bad judgment on the part of the Brentford goalkeeper enabled Moran to register the third point at the end of ten minutes, and eight minutes later Gibbins scored the fourth after a single-handed run. The visiting defence, which bad displayed weakness, improved after this, and their forwards had more of the game. Watkins contributed one excellent effort but Dixon saved cleverly. The Hammers led by four clear goals at the interval, and within seven minutes of the resumption scored two further goals, Gibbins obtaining the first and Dumbrill putting through his own goal.
